I'll Tumble 4 Ya Bog Hop and LLC Friday

Oooh!  I'm so excited to be participating in the I'll Tumble 4 Ya Blog Hop, and I'm also excited to offer you blog hoppers a two for one post!  Besides the blog hop, for me this Friday is Life List Club Friday, which means my fellow LLC'er, Sonia Medeiros, is guest posting at Motivation for Creation.  She decided to join in the hop, so I'll post her entry first, and then mine will be underneath hers.

Just a Little Crush by Sonia G. Medeiros
I'm thrilled to be hanging out at Lara's blog this Life List Club Friday. Lara's invited me to join in the I'll Tumble 4 Ya blogfest...by fessing up to my 80s celeb crush. So here goes...
Wait for it...
Wait for it...
ALF!
What? Not buying it?
I mean...sure, he's a little height challenged. Okay and maybe he's in need of a good depilatory. And he might have been just a wee bit too old for me but...
Still not buying, huh?
Oh, alright. My real 80s crush was...
Ricky Schroder. In all his Silver Spoons glory. By the time I started watching the show, it was already in reruns but Ricky, with his adorable smile and open face really made my tween heart go pit-a-pat. Pretty sure I wrote "Mrs. Ricky Schroder" all over my school notebooks and had our wedding all planned out.
I think ALF was going to perform the ceremony.
So, spill already. Who's was your 80s celeb crush.

Blog Hop Part Two: Lara's Crush

Since I was ten in 1981 and graduated high-school in 1989, the 80's are full of teeny-bopper crush memories.  I was going to include runners up, but I started adding people, and was getting too many photos, so I decided I'd stick to my main crush of the 80's.  I started crushing on them in 1984 and it kind of still goes on today, although in a much more mature way.  I hope. ;)

And the winner is...

Duran Duran!!!

This would not be a surprise to anyone who went to high school with me.  My parents practically knew the songs as well as my sister and I did.  If I told you all the stupid things I did back then because of crushing on Duran Duran, you'd never respect me again, so it's my dirty little secret!

Here they are circa. Seven and the Ragged Tiger in 1984.

I had to include this one, because they are actually smiling.  My mom even thought Nick Rhodes has an amazing smile.  Unfortunately, many of the pictures I found were those serious, model type photos they were famous for.

Here they are (everyone except the guitarist, Andy Taylor, who doesn't appear to want to rejoin the band), still rockin' the guy-liner, in May, 2011.  In March, 2011 the band released All You Need is Now.

I guess we all grew older, so I won't hold the wrinkles, hair loss, and excess poundage against them.  Actually, I think they have held up better than many of their 80's contemporaries.  They still put out great music, too, and I found out several months ago that Simon Le Bon, the lead singer, has had a blog for a long time where he reviews science fiction novels. Who knew!

So that's my entry into the I'll Tumble 4 Ya' Blog Hop!  I've enjoyed revisiting my 80's crushes, and am so excited to see who everyone else picked!  I'd also like to say a huge "Thank you" to Sonia for playing along!

If you haven't had too much of me, you can always head over to Jenny Hansen's blog, More Cowbell, where I am guest posting on how to deal with goal achievement difficulties.  Have a great hop!

  3. Oh, by the way Lara - I still think Duran Duran are hot up there :D Especially the "olden days" pics. *Dreamy sigh*

    ALF...that cracked me up. ;)

  4. Hey Lara,

Ha! Duran Duran.. I love it, (NOT) them :)

I'm in the BlogFest, too, and didn't even think of them... I was always more of a Depeche Mode (still am:) dude :)

  5. Hey...a two-for-one deal! :) I love the Ricky Schroeder choice. I respect him as an actor and a person. He tore my heart to pieces in THE CHAMP! And I've seen a lot of Duran Duran references in this blogfest so far, so those guys must have been doing something right! :)

  6. LOL, I love the Alf choice! :D I think Duran Duran is the most popular pick from what I have seen today.
Nice to meet you, Lara! :)

  7. Look at you recruiting for the fest - nice job! Sonia + Alf, who would've guessed? It was nice to see smiley Ricky show up in the fest. :)

I love that you, Lara, chose the entire band of Duran Duran! My maiden name rhymed with Rio and I used to pretend they were singing "Her name is Keough and she dances on the sand..." Thanks for digging up the rare smiling picture of them - and the current one too. Gotta love a guy who can pull of the guyliner. *sigh*

And thank you both so much for fessing up and bringing the 80s to the blogosphere today. :D

  9. LOL. Fun idea for a post. My crush would've been on the New Kids on the Block. Were they 80's or early 90's? Oh well, they were awesome and I was so jealous of my cousin who had bed sheets with their faces on them! OMG!

    1. I think they were late 80's. That's a closet crush, for me. I thought Donny was cute, but didn't want to admit it to anyone!

  10. I didn't know Simon LeBon has a blog for science fiction novel reviews - that's great! My crush was John Taylor - love the pictures you've got of them, especially the smiling one!

    1. So here's an embarrassing admission, I used my children to watch the video of All You Need Is Now quite a few (heehee) times. They kept asking to see it, and I'd be like "Okay!!" and then when we were done, "Want to see it again?" I'm ashamed. But they DO look so good, still!!

  12. They maybe older, but they still look better than other rockers!

Yeah, I am a Duran Duran fan. I fought it for years, but couldn't help it.

Great post. And glad to see some Alf love!

    1. Good work today, embracing your inner DD fan! Just kidding - I got teased plenty for my fandom. I grew up in a Nebraska town of 6,000 people. You can imagine how esteemed DD was there!

  14. Ha! Alf! I loved that show. I was a big fan of Ricky Schroder too. I wanted my own train to ride around my mansion. I loved Duran Duran. Simon was my favorite of the bunch!

    1. Hubby I and I were just talking about that train. I still want a house like that. LOL

    2. I have to say that, for being the oldest, Simon looks the best, in my opinion. He's just cute. Back in the 80's I never really got that into him. I had a friend who loved him though! There was a member for everyone!

  15. So, what was your goal, Sonia...to BE Mrs. Ricky Schroeder? Cute post.

  17. Hahahahahhah!! I was in love with Michael J. Fox when he played in Family Ties. He was sooooo smart. I was really, really smitten.

He made this long, intellectual lecture to his sister Justine, about what it meant "literally" to speak baby talk, then he ends it with "...parenthetically, gitchy, gitchy, goo."

I swooned over that episode. LOL

  19. LOL! I love the Alf reference :) Rick Schroeder has grown on me over the years but I never "got" the attraction with Duran Duran. I'm am/was a rocker through and through :) Thanks for following!

    1. He's definitely made a great transition from child actor to adult actor. Not all of them make it. But he still has that something special. But of course I don't still have a crush on him ;) LOL

    2. There were two camps (kind of like Jacob and Edward). Either you loved Duran Duran or you didn't. What I loved about music in the 80's was that there was such a diversity.

  22. My wife is a big fan of Duran Duran. Simon is her favorite, too, and I am reminded annually when our niece's birthday comes up that it is also Mr. Le Bon's. In fact, just now, as I confirmed this with her, she obligingly rattled off the dates of the other members' birthdays, too. Sigh...

Lara, I graduated in 1989 as well! A very good year. It IS good to see the boys smiling.

    1. I didn't know Ricky Schroder was in NYPD Blue! There's a lot of those 80's actors getting work in current shows - like Andrew McCarthy was in White Collar, and Ally Sheedy in Psych. It's always fun to see.

1989 was a good year, if for no other reason than to get out of high school! I love that picture. My heart melted a little, I admit. :)

Good luck with the Campaign. Did it last fall but couldn't keep up with the assignments. With the A to Z approaching, I knew it took precedence.

    1. Thanks, Alex! I'm a little nervous about keeping up, too. Since it's a mini-campaign, I am hoping I'll be okay. I think you're smart making a choice between it and the A to Z. I did the same thing, but chose the Campaign this year, because of other goal commitments. Next year, though, I want to do the A to Z! Have fun with it, and I'll stop by to read your posts!
